A collaboration between Fondazione Paolo e Carolina Zani and Fondazione Arena di Verona for a unique event: August 1, 2021. The Holy Family of Maria Callas returns to the Arena
The painting by Giambettino Cignaroli donated by Giovanni Battista Meneghini to Maria Callas on 1 August 1947 returns to the Arena exactly 74 years later, on the occasion of an evening event that also includes the staging of Turandot by Giacomo Puccini with an international cast, including the most requested and appreciated soprano in the world in the last twenty years, Anna Netrebko, engaged in the title role.
The painting, talisman by Maria Callas, will be exhibited to the public inside gate 1, extraordinarily from 5 to 7 pm for all visitors with free admission, then, for the spectators of Turandot, until the end of the performance. For Cecilia Gasdia, superintendent of the Arena di Verona Foundation, thanks to this exhibition “it is as if we entered Callas’s dressing room and left without disturbing her, because she is still here, always alive”. Massimiliano Capella, director of the Casa Museo of the Fondazione Zani, emphasizes that this “is not a nostalgic operation, but is to be considered a real artistic restitution. In fact, the small table returns to the place where Maria Callas received it from the hands of Giovanni Battista Meneghini ”.
