This bureau is a rarity in the field of Venetian 18th century lacquered furniture. Its uniqueness lies in its unusual serpentine and decidedly rotund shape, while the upper part is in the shape of a pyramid with a singular “lacework” decoration. It is, in fact, adorned with Venetian lace, multicolored floral motifs, birds, and dragonflies set against an especially rare dark blue background. Furthermore, it presents applied carvings of gilded flowers and leaves, in imitation of the gilded bronze finishes fashionable for French commodes.
