Description

The scene takes place in the central hall of a Venetian ridotto (or gambling house, possibly in Palazzo Dandolo in San Moisè). In the background, Longhi has depicted several patrons and players concealing their identity behind bautta (the classic black cape covering head and shoulders), larva (face mask), and tricorn.
